USCSS Nostromo Jan 2120 - Depart Solomons, Sol April 2121 – Arrive Thedus June 2121 – Depart Thedus October 2122 – Arrive Sol Changes: June 2122 - Arrive LV-426, Zeta-2-Reticuli April 2123 – Arrive Sol ![]() At the beginning of Alien, there were two dates displayed on a computer terminal: ‘Actual time June 3 Flight time Nov 5’ No years were given, but it is my theory that June 3 is the real cosmic date, while the date the ship and the crew believe it to be is November 5, due to time dilation caused by FTL travel. Aliens is set in 2179, and Alien is set 57 years before, therefore the exact date the Nostromo arrived at LV-426 is June 3 2122. Dallas said they were about half way home at the beginning of Alien. Lambert said they were 10 months from home after being re-routed. Data from the DVD says the Nostromo left Thedus on June 12 2121, and were due to arrive at LV-426 sometime the following April. For whatever reason they were delayed and arrived two months late. The total flight time from Sol to Thedus of 16 months is something I arbitrarily made up, but when we take into account the arrival time at Thedus of April 2121, 16 months earlier (Jan 2120) is the exact date when Dallas, Kane and Lambert were assigned to the Nostromo (according to DVD info). Plus allow 1-2 months for cargo loading at Thedus, gives us a total trip time of approximately 34 months. So taking into account the events in Aliens, when Ripley told Clemens she’d ‘been out here a long time’, she wasn’t mucking around. There is some speculation involved in these calculations and they should be regarded as such. |
